Cedar Bay cherries are native to coastal parts of Northern Australia, and produce masses of very tasty cherry-like fruit. They are sweet and have a flavour which is described as berry, grape and cherry.
The tree is frost tender, especially when young. They can survive temperatures to 0, so should be planted in a sheltered protected, sunny position if planting outside. Alternatively, they grow very well in pots, and this would be the recommended method in our climate. Like all fruit trees, they like well draining soil.
In New Zealand's temperate climate, Cedar Bay Cherries only grow to around 1-1.5m high and wide. They form a compact bush rather than large tree.
Our plants are 2 years old, and in good conditions, Cedar Bay cherry trees will begin fruiting after 3 years.
