Care Requirements for Costus arabicus ‘Variegata’
Light
Bright, indirect light is best to maintain strong variegation and healthy growth. It can tolerate partial or light shade, but too much direct sun can scorch the leaves.
Water
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. It has low drought tolerance and appreciates regular watering, especially during the warmer growing season.
Humidity
High humidity is preferred. It does well in naturally humid environments or with the aid of a pebble tray, humidifier, or placement in a kitchen or bathroom.
Soil
Use a well-draining, rich soil mix high in organic matter.
Temperature
Prefers warm conditions. It is not frost-hardy and is best grown outdoors in frost-free areas in the warmer parts of New Zealand or as a houseplant indoors.
Growth Habit
It's a rhizome-forming perennial that grows in a clumping fashion, with stems spiraling as they grow upward.
