Fig - Desert King

Desert King is one of the best fig varieties for cooler climates, making it a great fit for many parts of New Zealand. It produces a single, reliable breba crop of large, green-skinned figs with vivid strawberry-red flesh that's sweet and richly flavoured.

Unlike many fig varieties that need warmth to ripen a main crop, Desert King sets fruit on old wood early in the season and doesn't rely on high summer heat to produce well - a big advantage in cooler or coastal growing conditions. It's also self-fertile, so no pollination partner is needed.
