The Eversweet variety is a ruby-red colour with virtually no seeds. As its name implies, fruits of the Eversweet pomegranate tree are sweet, even when immature. It is also tolerant to the heat conditions of New Zealand. This variety is originally from Afghanistan and is frost and cold hardy. They are self-fertile and are ripening in late autumn to early winter. Plant in a sheltered, sunny position where soils are fertile and free-draining. The tree grows to around 3 meters in height, but can be kept smaller by a light prune every year or 2.
