Annona cherimola
Cherimoya Bayes is a compact, upright tree with olive-green, oval leaves that have a soft and velvety underside. The tree produces nondescript winged flowers that emit a pleasant fragrance, leading to the development of moderately-sized round fruit with smooth skin. The creamy white flesh is juicy, delicate, and reminiscent of custard, offering a sweet taste with an excellent lemony flavour.
Harvest period is between September and November, when the fruit turns to a lighter green while maintaining firmness. To ripen the fruit, keep it at room temperature until it develops its characteristic fragrance and softens slightly to the touch.
For maintenance, prune the tree at the end of winter to retain its shape. Additionally, apply a generous mulch and use a potassium-rich fertiliser during spring and autumn for optimal growth.
