A real standout NZ-bred variety, the Vlassoff (often called Athenree Dark) is a top-tier honey fig that produces impressive, large round fruit. You’ll know they’re ready when the skin turns a deep purple-black, hiding that sweet, succulent red flesh inside. It’s a reliable double-cropper, giving you a feed in January and again in April, provided it’s tucked into a really sunny, well-drained spot. Just be sure to give it a bit of protection from any harsh frosts while it's getting established.
