The Manila Tamarind, a captivating medium-sized evergreen leguminous tree in the pea family, boasts striking bright pink bean pods that are not only visually appealing but also rich in Vitamin C. Indigenous to India, as well as the Pacific Coast and adjacent highlands of Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, this versatile plant is renowned for its resilience.
Thriving in diverse environments, the Manila Tamarind exhibits nitrogen-fixing capabilities, drought tolerance, and salt tolerance, making it adaptable to various soil types. While it can endure brief frost and temperatures as low as 0°C, optimal growth conditions in New Zealand are achieved when cultivated in a pot within a greenhouse or patio setting. Notably, caution is advised against overwatering during the winter months.
Current stock: Two-year-old seedling.
