Dwarf Pomegranate - Nana

Pomegranate Nana (Punica granatum 'Nana') is a true dwarf pomegranate, forming a compact, bushy shrub of around 1 metre. From late spring through summer it's covered in bright orange-red trumpet flowers, followed by miniature pomegranates that ripen in autumn and hang on the bush like little ornaments.

The fruit is small and more decorative than a dessert pomegranate, but it's edible and adds a lovely pop of colour. Glossy green leaves turn golden before dropping in winter, so it looks good across the seasons.

Nana is self-fertile, so a single plant will flower and fruit on its own. Its small size makes it ideal for pots on a sunny deck or patio, low hedging, borders, or bonsai. Plant in full sun in free-draining soil; once established it's drought tolerant and copes with light frosts. A light trim after fruiting keeps it neat and bushy.
