Carambola Starfruit - Aotearoa Gold - Grafted

Developed here in Aotearoa, Aotearoa Gold is a self-fertile starfruit that crops heavily. The fruit is juicy with very few seeds, and the fins are plumper than most varieties, so there's more flesh per fruit.

The skin ripens to a deeper orange than other yellow starfruit, and the flavour is different too. Rather than the simple fruitiness of common starfruit, it has a mellow, apricot-like flavour with a hint of citrus and a light, refreshing tang. A great choice for anyone who enjoys a fruit with a bit more depth.

Mature trees can tolerate light frosts but require warm, sheltered conditions. Prolonged temperatures below -1°C can be lethal. These trees flourish in full sunlight and well-drained soil. Moderate watering is ideal, but avoid waterlogged conditions, especially during flowering. To protect them from harsh weather, plant them in a sheltered location and fertilize 4-5 times annually.
