Casimiroa Sue Belle is a fruit with a rich sweet flavor that is reminiscent of a combination of peach, banana, and pear. It has a smooth texture and the fruit should be picked while firm and changing color from green to yellow. The fruit is mature enough to pick when it can be gently released from the tree with a twist. The skin of the fruit is delicate, so handpicking is preferable to prevent damage and spoilage. After harvesting, the fruit will ripen quickly.
Sue Belle is self-fertile, and pollinated fruit grows largest, containing 1-5 large seeds embedded in the flesh. Unpollinated fruit does form, but these seedless fruits are generally smaller.
The Casimiroa tree is medium to very large and evergreen, with a height and spread of up to 4 meters. The tree casts a dense shade and is densely branching, drooping at maturity. It grows rapidly in flushes and is deciduous under drought and other stress. Pollinated fruit grows larger and contains 1-5 large seeds embedded in the flesh, while unpollinated fruit is generally smaller and seedless. The Sue Belle cultivar produces delicious orange-sized fruit from May to August.
