Annona cherimola
The Cherimoya Bronceada is a medium size tree that grows up to 5 meters high and produces green, winged flowers in spring, which are followed by large, knobbly fruit with creamy white, custard-like flesh and a delightful fruity fragrance. The tree has large, oval-shaped, olive-green leaves with soft and velvety undersides and performs well in cooler climates.
Although hand pollination is often recommended, we have found that ants do a fantastic job of pollinating Cherimoya, and we have not noticed a difference in yield from hand pollination or natural pollination.
The fruit is harvested from August to October. Once mature, the fruit is picked and ripened at room temperature. The fruit is ripe when it develops its fragrance, softens slightly to the touch, and shows a slight change in color. It should be consumed within 5-10 days after picking as it spoils quickly. The fruit can also be stored in the fridge for a a few days once it is ripe.
