Grumichama, also known as Brazil Cherry and Spanish Cherry, is an attractive, slow-growing tree with glossy dark green leaves that can reach a mature height of 3-5 meters. It showcases a stunning floral display before producing cherry-like fruits on elongated stems. The fruits go through a color transformation, starting from green, turning red, and finally maturing to black. Inside, the fruit has white flesh with a single seed in the middle, offering a delightful blend of cherry and grape flavors.
This versatile tree can adapt to various soil types, but it thrives best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Being a subtropical plant, it prefers a warm environment with partial shade to full sun exposure, though young trees should be protected from frost.
Fruiting time: four to five years from seeds.
Current stock: 3+ years old seedlings
