Soursop, also known as guanábana or graviola, originates from South America. It typically grows into a medium-sized tree, with beautiful lush, dark green leaves. Similar to its cherimoya relatives, soursop trees tend to be momentarily deciduous in early spring.
The fruit of the soursop tree boasts a complex flavor profile, described as delicious and reminiscent of a blend of strawberries, apples, and sour citrus, with a creamy texture akin to bananas.
Soursop trees are self-fertile but tend to fare better when planted alongside a companion.
Soursop trees thrive best when planted in full sun. They dislike having wet, cold roots, so make sure they are planted in free-draining soil. They prefer temperatures above 5 °C and are not as cold-hardy as cherimoya. They are very easy to grow in a greenhouse, but if you don’t have one, you can grow them in a large pot and move them indoors or to a very warm, sheltered position over the winter. Keep them bit drier during the winter season, as they will be dormant at that time.
Current stock: 2.5+ year-old seedlings.
